Chennai Corporation Property Tax Online Payment

Chennai Corporation provides Property Tax Online Payment. The newly invented Chennai property tax online method by the Tamil Nadu government will make the task easier for its users by completing the tax payment in just one click. You need not waste your time standing in the queue or dedicate your one entire working day towards the property tax payment. It is a very simple procedure and the payment can be done either by credit/debit cards or online banking services. Most of the online banking services are supported including SBI/ICICI.

1) Visit the Property Tax Online Payment

2) Fill in the Zone/Division Code/Bill No/ Sub No available in  your Corporation Property Tax Card

3) Submit the form and after processing you will be presented with any dues.

4) Select the check box for payment and submit.

5) Select the payment method and submit and you will be redirected to payment gateway(Internet Baking/Credit Card) and make the payment.

6) Be careful: Once the payment is made on the baking site/credit card payment is done, the site should automatically redirect back to corporation site. Please wait for few minutes(as the corporation site is very slow in processing). Never refresh the page till the receipt is generated( if you do then you may have to contact them to rectify which will be a painful process)

7) The receipt is presented. Make a print out or save the receipt for your future reference

Rules / Procedure

Property Tax

When a Property has to be assessed and Property tax to be fixed for it, the following procedures are to be followed.

FORMS AVAILABLE AT Office of the Revenue Officer
Office of the Asst. Revenue
Officer of the Zonal Offices I to XV
  • Title deed Approved Plan copy
  • Copy of Receipt of Tax last paid
  • For lease Lands, a NOC From the owner of the Land for the Assessment
Ripon Buildings Asst. Revenue
Officer's Zones – I to XV
  • For new buildings Form No.6 to be used
  • For Addl. Construction Form No.7 to be used
  • For sub-Division of Buildings Form No.8 To be used
  • According to MCMC Act, 1919 under Section 107, the Property Owner should give Notice on Completion or Occupation of the building
  • Commissioner, Corporation of Chennai Within 15  days From the date of completion or Occupation  of the building whichever is Earlier.

  • Application To enclose Any documents Based on the Appeal
  • Application to be Submitted in Person in Duplicate
  • Copy of Receipt showing Existing tax + 50 of the Enhanced Tax.

OTHER DETAILS On receipt of Assessment report, Any particulars Found to be contrary reg.Age of Bldg, Usage of Building (Commercial / Residential) Objection petition May be preferred To the Revenue Officer, Corporation of Chennai, After Verification,final Notice will be Issued On receipt of New Assessment of Tax If it found Unsatisfactory, Applicant may Appeal by paying 50% of New Assessment of Tax to the Chairman, Taxation Appeal Tribunal. After hearing by Tribunal Final order will be Passed.

DOUMENTS TO BE ENCLOSED Registered Documents In the name of The Transferee Registered Sale Deed Will probhited Will High Court Death Certificate of The deceased And legalheir Certificate Issued by the Tahsildar Concerned Registered Settlement Deed Records Relating to Right to Ownership Property Tax Book and Updated tax Paid receipt. 1 Rupee Court Fee Stamp to be Affixed on the Name Transfer Application

OTHER DETAILS Application Should be Submitted Within 3 Months from The date of Registration And within 12 months from the date of obtaining legal heirship Certificate failing which a minimum fine of Rs.50/- will be charged. Name Transfer Will be Completed Within 15 days. If any Delay, Appeal may be Made to the Officer Concerned.
